The UN Global Compact, with over 10,000 corporate members and other stakeholders across 130 countries, is the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world. It is a leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible and sustainable corporate policies and practices. In February, TeliaSonera became a signatory and a member of the UN Global Compact.

One of the key requirements of the UN Global Compact is that the members commit to make the ten principles an integral part of their business strategy, day to day operations and organizational structure. The UN Global Compact is organized around ten leading principles in the field of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.

“I am very pleased that we have joined the UN Global Compact as it offers a wide array of advantages. TeliaSonera’s values, sustainability policies and activities are in line with the UN Global Compact principles.  Joining the framework fosters our commitment to responsible business practices throughout our company”, says Eija Pitkänen, Head of Sustainability.

Since its inception in 2000, the UN Global Compact has grown steadily as the objectives of the international community and those of the business world align more and more. Common goals, such as tackling corruption, safeguarding the environment and insuring social inclusion, have resulted in partnerships and openness between governments, civil society, labour and the United Nations.
