TeliaSonera proposes to change its name to Telia Company

On 12 April the Annual General Meeting will decide whether TeliaSonera should change names and become Telia Company. The new name would signify and visualize the company´s new strategy and journey to become a New Generation Telco.

Two and a half years ago TeliaSonera started the journey to become a New Generation Telco. Since then a new strategy, organization and operating model have been set. TeliaSonera has also acquired and divested companies as well as ventured into new areas. To visualize this change, the Board is proposing to the Annual General Meeting to change TeliaSonera to Telia Company.
 
–  We want to build the new digital society and empower people, companies and societies to stay in touch with everything that matters to them. Now we’re about to take the next step. The new name Telia Company is a proof point of our journey to shape the New Generation Telco – the company that will change the industry, says Johan Dennelind, CEO TeliaSonera.  

In September 2015, TeliaSonera announced the strategic direction to reduce the presence in Eurasia and focus on the Nordic and Baltic markets. Recently, the operations in Estonia and Norway took the name Telia and four out of or seven markets are now carrying the Telia brand.

We live our purpose “bringing the world closer – on the customer’s terms” – every day and we want to show that we are a new company, with a positive outlook of the future that we help create for our customers. The new proposed name, Telia Company, signifies and visualises this through our local brands who have already started to be refreshed, concludes Johan Dennelind.
