Telia provides EuroBasket with more connectivity

Helsinki Arena was at the centre of basketball fans’ attention last week when the EuroBasket games were held there. Telia Finland installed no less than 500 temporary fixed network connections at the arena and also had technical experts on site 24/7 during the event.

Fans across the world follow the European Basketball Championship, Eurobasket, where the best 24 best European teams battle from 31 August until 17 September. Finland, one of four host nations, hosted the games last week and Telia Finland was heavily involved in ensuring that the games were broadcasted and covered properly.

"We remodelled the backbone network of the Helsinki Arena last spring. In addition to the renovation, we built about 500 new fixed network connections in the area specifically for this basketball event. Temporary connections for the championships were made with brand new equipment which has been repeatedly tested all spring and summer. The implementation included local area networks and wireless local area networks, as well as Telia’s corporate data security solution and firewalls,” says Production Manager Timo Lahtinen.

Telia also had technicians on site around the clock during the event. As soon as the result was in from the last game in Helsinki, Telia started to dismantle the 500 temporary network connections.
“All the connections and cabling had to be dismantled within 24 hours,” explains Lahtinen.
