22 tech companies pledge to protect children online

Telia Company and 21 other leading internet, telecom and media companies of the Alliance to Better Protect Minors Online have now announced their individual commitments describing ongoing and future actions to create a safer and better online environment for minors.

Launched on 7 February during Safer Internet Day 2017, the Alliance is a collaborative platform set up following the European Commission’s call for action to tackle forces to tackle harmful content and behavior online. 22 companies have now announced their individual goals and action plans, for increased user-empowerment, collaboration and awareness.

Telia is already active in areas where the Alliance looks for action, for example by fighting child sexual abuse material online and offering child safeguarding services. Now, the company has presented a full list of pledges.

“Children are important stakeholders to a company like Telia, with so many children using our services. Through the Children’s Advisory Panel to Telia Company and innovative initiatives like “No Isolation” to help children out of loneliness, we have lately taken new steps and put children’s rights more in focus at Telia Company,” says Anna Augustson, responsible for children’s rights at Telia Company.
“Our pledges under the Alliance, such as offering a child safeguarding tool in all our markets, engaging with children and parents through online portals for increased online safety and expanding cooperation with child rights organizations, confirm our commitment to further expand our work on children’s rights and safety online.

About the Alliance
The Alliance gathers actors from the entire value chain: devices manufacturers, telecoms, online services used by children to identify and address risks that children face online and promote the exchange of best practices.
After 18 months from the launch of the Alliance, an assessment of the initiative will take place through a transparent and independent review process.
