TeliaSonera Finland´s employer/employee negotiations completed
The employer/employee negotiations that were launched at TeliaSonera Finland (Sonera Corporation) at the beginning of April to reduce about 400 jobs have now been completed. The underlying reason behind the negotiations was the need to streamline the operations at TeliaSonera Finland and the synergies resulting from the merger between Telia and Sonera. With these measures, TeliaSonera Finland aims also to achieve a more competitive cost level in the highly competitive Finnish telecommunications market.
Of the persons who participated in the employer/employee procedure, approximately 170 will have to be dismissed. The rest of the total of 400 job reductions will be implemented through expiration of fixed-term employment contracts, retirements and redeployment either within the TeliaSonera Group in Finland or Sweden or outside the Group. TeliaSonera Finland offers various kinds of redeployment support for employees to be dismissed. At present, there are almost 70 different openings advertised internally. In addition, the company has each year more than 400 fixed-term jobs on average. Fixed-term positions are thus constantly ending and advertised as open. It is therefore possible that many of the employees who are now dismissed can find other jobs at the company later on, if they so desire. About 310 of the job reductions are directed to the Greater Helsinki area, while the rest, about 90, are carried out in several locations around Finland. The figures in the other towns are so small that, to secure the protection of privacy, more accurate town-specific figures cannot be published. The personnel of call centers is not reduced.
