More customers can get broadband from Telia
Telia can now provide broadband to another 100,000 households in Sweden. Up to now, the geographic limit for some broadband services has been a distance of 5.5 km, but it is now being extended to 9 km.
On April 2, Telia will commence sales of Telia Broadband 250 and Telia Broadband 500 to households, based on the new 9 km link distance. Up to now the cable distance between a customer and a switching centre has been limited to a maximum of 5.5 km for these services.
Depending on the quality of the network the distance is now extended to 9 km and in some cases even further. The means that approximately 83 percent of the Swedish households can be offered ADSL broadband connectivity.
"When we launched broadband over the copper cable network, most experts dismissed ADSL technology as being too simple. However, by gradually building out the network and developing services, we have proved that ADSL technology holds its own against the competition. We're very pleased that another 100,000 households will now gain access to broadband," says Indra Åsander, head of the Consumer Segment at TeliaSonera Sweden.
Customers will pay a connection fee (SEK 595 when ordering over the Internet and SEK 695 when ordering from Telia's Customer Service) for Telia Broadband 250 and Telia Broadband 500, as well as a fixed monthly rate (SEK 299 and SEK 375, respectively) for which they can surf as much as they want. From the user's perspective, Telia Broadband 250 has a download speed of 250 Kbit/s and an upload speed of 64 Kbit/s, while Telia Broadband 500 has a download speed of 500 Kbit/s and an upload speed of 400 Kbit/s.
The maximum link distance for Telia Broadband 2000 and Telia Broadband 8000 remains 3.5 km.
