Telia’s mobile network best in coverage test
Telia’s customers have access to Sweden’s best mobile network for voice calls as proved by a test conducted by the Swedish magazine “Mobil” during the spring. The magazine’s test patrol stated that Telia’s strength lies in its ability to provide good network coverage in rural areas of Sweden and to maintain high and consistent quality in its network all over the country. More than 99 percent of the 5,500 test calls in Telia’s network were registered as completed calls.
“Based on the results of Mobil magazine’s test, Telia has captured the position as Sweden’s best provider of mobile phone calls for the sixth year in a row,” says Håkan Dahlström, head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera Sweden. “However, we won’t be satisfied with that – we will also continue to improve our mobile network with better coverage and new technology to give our customers faster and more reliable connections to the Internet.”.
Telia is far better than its competitors when it comes to voice calls. With a final test result of 4.9 out of a maximum possible 5.0, Telia is much better at voice calls than other operators in Sweden.
Telia’s combined mobile network penetrates 99 percent of Sweden’s population. At the end of 2008, Telia will build out its GSM network to cover 90 percent of Sweden’s land area and also upgrade it with EDGE technology to give customers an even better platform for using mobile Internet services. With EDGE, users will hardly notice the difference in data speeds between networks. Today, EDGE technology has been deployed within 75 percent of Telia’s GSM network. The 3G network is also being built out and can be accessed by 9 million people in Sweden today. In addition, areas of Gothenburg and Stockholm are currently testing turbo 3G (HSPA), which provides customers with wireless connections to the Internet that are almost ten times faster than speeds in the ordinary 3G network.
Telia has previously received awards during 2001-2005 for being Sweden’s best mobile network in annual tests conducted by Mobil magazine in Sweden. No test was conducted in 2006.
