TeliaSonera’s mobile operations changes its operating model in Finland

TeliaSonera’s Mobility Services business area will launch negotiations with the employee representatives on changeover to a new operating model in Finland. The changeover to a more customer-focused and less complicated operating model is estimated to lead to the termination of up to 165 jobs. According to the practice followed by the company in Finland, the holders of jobs that are to be terminated will not be dismissed.

The aim of the new operating model is to respond more rapidly and efficiently to the changing customer needs and to the changes in the market. The function-based organization will be abandoned, and the aim is to establish a strong unit focusing on customer relationship management. The unit will be responsible for the product and service offering, pricing and customer communications of mobile operations, and for customer-driven steering of other functions, e.g. sales, the Sonera Piste chain, and customer service.
The new operating model and the related reorganization will clarify the operations and eliminate overlaps. Other measures taken to achieve a more efficient and customer-oriented way of operating include broader job descriptions and responsibility areas.

An invitation to the negotiations has been issued today, and it is proposed that the first negotiations be held on January 15, 2008. The negotiations will affect around 900 employees of Mobility Services Finland. It is estimated that the changeover to the new operating model will lead to the termination of up to 165 jobs.
No dismissals thanks to the Competence Pool procedure

The details of the new operating model and its effects on the organization of the mobile operations will be looked into in cooperation with the employee representatives. According to the practice followed by TeliaSonera in Finland, holders of jobs that are to be terminated will not be dismissed. Instead, the Competence Pool procedure in use at the company will be applied to the redeployment of employees.
Competence Pool offers trainings and on-the-job training to employees. At Competence Pool, the employees can seek for a new job and redeployment during a longer period than the normal period of notice. The company has good experiences of the use of the Competence Pool model in change situations. In 2007, 277 employees were transferred to the Competence Pool. Hundreds of vacancies were filled internally, of these around 80 from the Competence pool. Furthermore, 438 new permanent employees were recruited externally. At present, there are 37 employees at Competence Pool.
