We cooperate with a number of actors to offer an even greater and safer online life to children.
Telia is a co-founder of World Childhood Foundation. The partnership has been developed to focus on keeping children safe and in control online. Funding has been put into projects linked to ICT and Children’s rights.
Save the Children Sweden supports us to assess our operation’s impact on children’s rights with the aim to support and respect children’s rights in our daily operation.
Telia Company has also formed partnerships on local country level on child safety issues.
Telia is a signatory to a number of self-regulatory initiatives in the area of Protection of Children online, and we drive our work to at least comply with the principles set by these initiatives. The signed initiatives are GSMA Mobile Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse Content (2008), ICT Coalition for Children Online (2012), GSMA MoU with Child Helplines International (2014) and the Alliance to better protect minors online (2017).
On Safer Internet Day, 7 February 2017, the European Commission and leading digital players, including Telia Company, gathered to form an Alliance to Better Protect Minors Online.
The motto of Safer Internet Day 2017 was "Be the change: unite for a better internet". In this spirit, Telia Company joined this major self-regulatory initiative to address harmful content, harmful conduct and harmful contact online, together with other tech and telecoms companies, broadcasters, NGOs and UNICEF.
"Children are active users of our services and we want to act responsibly towards this important stakeholder. We are already active in the children's rights area with an ambition to support and respect children's rights in all parts of our operations. We believe that a common initiative like this one initiated by the EU Commission makes us and our peers raise the bar even further" says Anne Larilahti, VP and Head of Sustainability, Telia Company.
The companies who participate in the Alliance will announce their individual commitments to improve online safety as part of the Alliance to Better Protect Minors Online within three months after forming the Alliance. It is acknowledged that the areas referenced are wide-ranging and each business will contribute in areas relevant in regards to the nature of its business. Telia Company intends to implement its individual commitments in its majority owned operations in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The Alliance has agreed to assess implementation of this initiative through regular transparent and independent monitoring and evaluation.
Telia Company is already active in the areas where the Alliance look for action, for example by fighting child sexual abuse material online through various methods and working against cyberbullying. Other examples are the child safeguarding services that Telia offers to parents and caregivers, as well as new and on-going partnerships with Child Right's organisation to develop our services and operations even further to support and respect children's rights.
