Tcell in brief
The Tcell brand in Tajikistan was, until July 2012, represented by two legal entities - CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” operating in the regions of republican subordination, Khatlon and GBAO regions (South Tajikistan), and CJSC JV “Somoncom” operating in Sugd region (North Tajikistan).
CJSC JV “Somoncom” was established in 1998. In August 1998, Somoncom obtained a GSM-900 license, and on March 1, 2000 launched commercial service as the first GSM operator in Tajikistan.
CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” was established in November 2001 and started commercial operation in July 2002.
In 2003, the North and South networks were united through a direct national roaming interconnection and continued working under the common brand, Indigo. In July 2007, TeliaSonera acquired controlling interest in “Indigo Tajikistan” and “Somoncom”, and in March 2010 both operations were rebranded to Tcell.
In 2011, operational merger of the South and North companies took place, and in July 2012 their legal merger of was completed.
