The Östen Mäkitalo Scholarship Awards 2012
On May 2, the Östen Mäkitalo Scholarship Awards will be presented for the first time. Two awards will be given: one focusing on innovation and the other on entrepreneurship. At the event, Tunisian blogger Slim Amamou will talk about MOJO, mobile journalism. The entire event will be streamed here in TeliaSonera's Newsroom.
Östen Mäkitalo was a true innovator and entrepreneur, worth remembering. His vision of the future always emphasised the end-user perspective and that technology should benefit mankind.
His contributions to the development of the telecommunications industry extend far beyond his personal capacity as an unusually gifted and creative engineer. Based on his broad overview, he successfully initiated and inspired constructive cooperation between different scientific fields, resulting in today’s mobile communications.
In commemoration of Östen Mäkitalo, the jury has chosen two winners in his spirit who stand out from a number of innovative technology projects. The award consists of two categories: one emphasizing innovation and the other entrepreneurship.
The award winners will be announced on 2 May at the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Stockholm.
At each award ceremony, there will also be a presentation around a current issue relating to telecommunications and having a significant impact on global development. This year, the presentation will be given by Tunisian blogger Slim Amamou, who will talk about MOJO, or mobile journalism, and how the mobile phone can be used in new fields of application.
The event will be webcast here in Newsroom starting at 4 pm on 2 May. After the ceremony, the award winners will be presented here in films and articles including pictures for publication.
