Afghanistans Minister of Communications and IT visits Sweden
Afghanistan’s Minister of Communications and IT, Amirzai Sangin, visited Sweden last week and participated in a discussion at TeliaSonera on “Society and telecommunications – where global and local issues meet” (the discussion is in Swedish).
Minister Sangin is well acquainted with both Sweden and TeliaSonera. During his 20-year exile in Sweden he was employed by TeliaSonera, developing mobile communications. He has continued to do so as Minister for Communications in Afghanistan since 2006. Mobile communications is one of the most important drivers of growth in developing countries.
Last year, Amirzai Sangin was selected as host for the popular daily Swedish radio summer program “Sommarpratarna”. “I told listeners about how I left Sweden to return back to my homeland and with my knowledge and experience help establish a communications society,” he said. “There have been certain obstacles but I’ve been persistent – this is the future for my people.”
Minister Sangin was accompanied by Ms Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, Director General of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in the panel conversation. The discussion was hosted by Journalist Willy Silberstein. He has more than 30 years journalistic experience, including Swedish Radio, Television and correspondent work in Brussels.
