Telia Company celebrates milestone for largest open data center
The construction of the Telia Helsinki Data Center - the biggest open data center in Finland and the Nordic countries - has now reached its rooftop height.
Construction of the data center started in May 2016 and will be completed in April 2018. Last week, the 23 meter high data center celebrated a traditional “topping out” ceremony.
"This is an important milestone in the construction project. “When completed, the new data center will be a digitization factory for businesses, where we provide, for example, equipment space, communications and networking services as well as IT and cloud services and also IoT and Big Data services,” says Pasi Sutinen, head of Telia Data Center Business.
Millions of companies under one roof
The Telia Helsinki Data Center, a 150 million euro investment, measures over 30,000 m2 and will have room for nearly 200,000 servers, serving millions of companies at the same time.
“We are building an entirely new kind of data center, which will be highly automated and extremely secure. It will have a key role, for example, when new 5G service will be introduced in years to come,” says Sutinen.
Facts Telia Helsinki Data Center
The carrier-neutral data center will provide services for both Finnish and international companies, as its network connections will cover the whole world. The services to be provided by the data center will enable customer companies to raise the degree of automation and thereby free their own resources from maintenance to development.
