Building for the future while dealing with the past

Telia has gone through profound change in recent years. The scrutinizing of how assets were acquired in Central Asia has attracted significant interest among stakeholders. Parts of it has been described in media, in books and academic papers, but until now, not holistically with the perspective of the Telia leadership.

"In a meeting with our extended leadership and some of our key talent earlier this year, my executive management and I started it by reminding ourselves of what we’ve gone through since 2013. For all of us at Telia it is important to remember and learn from the journey we been through in the past few years and to share our story with our other stakeholders, not least the shareholders at the AGM this week," says Johan Dennelind, President and CEO of Telia.

When Johan Dennelind started on September 1, 2013, there was a dual challenge to take on, to deal with the past at the same time as building a stronger Telia in a rapidly changing market. The work on the story has taken the better part of a year and in parallel with the exits from the major markets of Eurasia and the big acquisitions in the Nordics.
