Telia introduces first 5G devices and subscriptions to the Finnish market

The sales start of 5G devices and subscriptions also marks the starting point of an accelerated 5G roll-out program. Telia’s 5G network coverage will be quickly expanded to the seven biggest cities in Finland.

Telia launches 5G subscriptions and devices to offer the enthustiastic the opportunity to start using the network of the future now that the introduction of 5G is picking up speed.

“We have started a 5G network roll-out program in the biggest Finnish cities and will bring the best devices to our customers. Now is the perfect time to start offering services to all customers,” says Janne Koistinen, 5G Program Manager for Telia Finland.

Superfast home routers, brand new 5G phones
Telia’s first 5G devices are Huawei Mate 20 X 5G and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G phones and for mobile broadband customers, Nokia 5G FastMile gateway and Huawei 5G CPE Pro router.

The Huawei devices are available at sales start. The deliveries of the Nokia 5G FastMile are expected to start at the end of October, and the sales and delivery dates for Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be confirmed in the near future.

New 5G devices represent the vendors’ premium models, and they offer the best user experience also in Telia’s superfast 4G network.

5G subscriptions for phones and home broadband
Telia’s subscription selection for 5G phones are Rajaton (”Limitless”) packages with maximum speeds of 1 000 and 450 Mbit/s. The first mobile broadband subscription offers 1 000 Mbit/s. The subscriptions guarantee the best opportunities for using new 5G devices and network for both consumer and business customers.

”As 5G grows, we will upgrade our offering to always secure the best services for our 5G customers. A 5G device and a 5G subscription is already today the most interesting solution for active mobile data users”, Koistinen promises.

Telia accelerates 5G roll-out
Telia and Nokia have developed 5G in Finland towards commercial operations through pilots, examples and first commercial implementations since 2016. Telia’s first phase 5G network operates in Helsinki, Vantaa and Oulu.

”We are accelerating network roll-out now that the first 5G devices are in the shops. At the end of the year, our network will be open in the seven biggest cities in Finland, and in the beginning of 2020, we will continue to build the coverage even wider,” says Koistinen.

Telia opened the commercial 5G network in the beginning of 2019. The network has so far been used in pilot projects for example at Helsinki Airport and the ABB factory at Pitäjänmäki. In Oulu, 5G supports the industrial and logistics ecosystem in developing innovations and digital ways of working.

5G is a part of the next industrial revolution
5G is expected to improve the throughput of mobile networks by more than 20 times and the capacity up to hundred times compared to current networks. The revolutionary aspect is the ability to connect a huge number of devices connected to the network and the possibility to enable services that require ultra-low latency and extreme reliability.
