Sara Nordbrand, Group Head of Sustainability at Telia Company, says: “Digital inclusion will be key for societies to capture the full potential of digitalization. The topic is therefore integrated in our business strategy through which we commit to provide access to reliable connectivity for all and increase users’ digital skills to make sure that no one is left behind. We’re proud of our results, and proud of this company for engaging in creating better connected living, even if we too need to do more.”

The benchmark assesses efforts in improving access to technology, enhancing digital skills, fostering trustworthy use, and innovating openly and ethically. Telia’s performance in areas such as cyber security, and children’s online safety is highlighted in the report.

“Benchmarking provides us with useful guidance and makes it possible for us to share knowledge and learn. Studies show that digital technology can accelerate progress towards meeting all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. To make that happen, we need to continue fully integrating human rights and inclusion aspects in important business processes and decisions in the years to come,” says Sara Nordbrand.

The report also highlights initiatives like More Digital, a program created by Telia to reduce digital exclusion among the elderly. As part of More Digital, almost 10,000 seniors in Sweden and Norway have been taught digital skills by teenagers in close collaboration with municipalities. The inclusion benchmark also highlights Telia’s initiatives and collaborations to encourage and mentor girls and women to take up tech careers in an industry that is still heavily dominated by men.

About the Digital Inclusion Benchmark

The Digital Inclusion Benchmark tracks how companies are helping to advance a more inclusive digital economy and society.
