Telia signs agreement with SAS to provide wireless networks for international airport lounges
Telia has signed an agreement with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) to install Telia HomeRun wireless networks at all of SAS's international airport lounges. With a PC or Mac card in their computer, travelers will have fast wireless broadband access to the Internet and their own company's corporate network.
"Business travelers have wanted the possibility to connect their computers at airports around the world for a long time," says Lars Karlsson, Marketing Manager for Telia HomeRun. "Up to now, it has been complicated, if it has been possible at all. With Telia HomeRun, people travelling with SAS will be able to work on their portable computers through a cordless network like they were at the office. They can also sign an agreement for the HomeRun service at a fixed subscription price."
Today, Telia HomeRun is installed at Stockholm's Arlanda Airport, where the cordless network covers Sky City, the Arlanda conference facility, the open area of the Sky City-Plaza, the showroom and exhibition halls and most lounges in Terminal 2, 4 and 5.
HomeRun is also installed at around 80 hotels in 30 Swedish cities. This cordless network will also be further expanded next year.
"The first installations will be made and operating at a number of SAS's international lounges already this year," continues Lars Karlsson. "During 2001, all SAS lounges will be equipped with cordless networks."
Facts: Telia HomeRun cordless networks are built at hotels, airports, railway stations and other locations where people need to connect their PCs. With a PC or MAC card from HomeRun in their computer, people can easily connect when they are in a location where HomeRun is installed. Telia HomeRun manages transmission speeds up to 11 Mbps and is based on the IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN standard, the first developed for cordless networks.
