Skanova to deliver capacity to 3G network

Skanova, the company operating and developing Sweden's largest network for telephony, Internet and broadband services, has now signed an agreement on the delivery of network capacity to the UMTS network planned by 3G Infrastructure Services AB, 3GIS. The company is jointly owned by mobile operators Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone.
The agreement now signed is the first covering a nationwide infrastructure for UMTS in Sweden. The work with building up the UMTS network will start in October. It is estimated to be finished by the end of 2002, with a coverage rate corresponding to 70 per cent of the Swedish population.
"Our task is to build and operate an infrastructure for UMTS. It is a huge and complex project, which is why we make high demands on our suppliers. We believe that Skanova has the necessary expertise and experience for delivering network capacity," says Jan Edhäll, Managing Director of 3G Infrastructure Services AB.
Lars-Gunnar Johansson, President of Skanova, comments on the deal: "We see this agreement with 3G Infrastructure Services AB as a significant success, and a confirmation that our offering was competitive, since there were obviously more companies bidding on it".
