Skanova launches shared access in the local network

Skanova, an independent network services wholesaler in the Telia Group, is now launching shared subscriber connections in the access network which consists of a copper wire leading from the exchange to a subscriber's telephone jack. With the launch of this concept, operators competing with Telia can offer broadband services based on ADSL via the telephone wire to Telia's telephony customers.
For the past year Skanova has been offering other operators several different alternatives for leasing capacity in Telia's access network. Prior to that, only entire connections could be leased. Now it is possible to share subscriber connections with Telia, which will also help reduce prices.
The access network can then be used at the same time for both telephony and broadband, since different frequency ranges are used for each service. Telia subscribers keep their telephone or ISDN subscription with Telia, but can also purchase broadband services from another operator. The shared line concept provides greater freedom of choice for subscribers and benefits competition in the broadband area.
In addition to shared connections, Skanova offers several other types of connections to access networks, as well as co-location, in which the equipment of other operators can be installed on Telia's premises. The price for a shared connection is SEK 150 per quarter, excluding Value Added Tax (VAT).
