Telia grows as a player on the Russian market

Telia International Carrier strengthens the grip on the Russian market. Through the deal with BaltTelecom Telia International Carrier climbs to the top of Internet providers in Russia.
Telia International Carrier in Russia has signed a one-year contract with BaltTelecom for the sale of IP-capacity on the Stockholm - Moscow route.
- The deal is definitely a break-through on the Russian market. Our commitment in Russia is long-term and with this deal we strengthen our grip on the market, says Lars Rydin, CEO Telia International Carrier.
The deal means that Telia International Carrier sales 45 Mbps of IP-capacity to BaltTelecom. There are drop-inserts along this route in St Petersburg and Helsinki.
BaltTelecom is a subsidiary of Telecominvest (TCI) in St Petersburg. Telecominvest consists of about 20 Russian and Russia based Telecom companies. Telia has about 25% of Telecominvests shares.
In November of last year, Telia International Carrier announced the launch of the Baltic Cable System together with Rostelecom. The Baltic Cable System will become a major high capacity multifiber optic cable system in the Baltic area, enabling Rostelecom and Telia International Carrier to carry IP, voice and data traffic between Russia, Europe and the USA.
