Telia strengthens its Danish broadband commitment - acquires Powercom

Telia is buying the rapidly growing network operator Powercom. This move will additionally strengthen Telia's position on the Danish carrier and broadband market. The sellers are the Danish power companies NESA and Eltra. The purchase sum is 544 MSEK for all shares.
The purchase will clearly solidify Telia's position as the only alternative network operator in Denmark. The purchase will also generate considerable investment synergies and expand the customer base.
Powercom, with around 120 employees, has a nation-wide network consisting of 5 000 kilometres of fibre cable and more than 40 city rings. The company will be placed under Telia Networks and integrated with Telia Net in Denmark.
Powercom's turnover in 2000 was 312 MSEK, and its profit after tax was 34 MSEK.
"This acquisition is in line with our strategies," states Jan Johansson, head of Telia's business area Telia Networks. "The purchase also strengthens our position as the leading broadband operator in Denmark. It gives us a unique opportunity to offer broadband to more customers in a more cost-effective way."
