Telia´s network solution links up County of Jämtland

In Sweden, Telia has signed an agreement with the County of Jämtland and
its seven municipalities to provide a network solution with capacity for
voice, data and image transmission. The order is valued at approximately
SEK 90 million.

In the agreement, the Jämtland County Council and municipalities will be
integrated in Telia´s Planet 1000 network solution, an IP-based Virtual

"This type of co-operation by county administrative units is unique in
Sweden and will enable the County of Jämtland to modernise its
telecommunications and data communications in a very cost-effective
way," says Anders Gylder, head of the Large Corporate Customers Segment
at TeliaSonera Sweden.

By utilising IP telephony and the option to integrate mobile telephones
in the network solution, schools and care centres - which are not
connected to the switchboard function today - will also gain access to
telephone service. Between 500 and 800 extensions will be connected to
the new network.

The new IP VPN network will also provide better capacity for a
telemedicine project. This project is being conducted for the EU by the
County Council of Jämtland with Telia´s participation. In the project,
hospitals and care centres in the county are using video technology for
medical purposes and alternative forms of meeting.
