Telia provides broadband for Västra Götaland County

In Sweden, Telia has signed an agreement with Västra Götaland County to
provide a powerful broadband network for all main cities and towns in
the county. In terms of capacity, bandwidths of 10 Mbit/s and higher
will be provided.

- With this initiative, Västra Götaland County will build out its
regional infrastructure and transform it into one of Sweden?s leading
networks, says Anders Gylder, head of the Large Corporate Customers
segment at TeliaSonera Sweden.

Västra Götaland County achieves two objectives with the agreement.
First, county healthcare services will be equipped with an effective
network solution. In addition to linking geographically separate units,
there will be a possibility to run IP telephony over the network, as
well as advanced applications in the area of telemedicine, including the
transmission of x-ray pictures.

Second, municipalities, enterprises and consumers will benefit from
increased bandwidth and gain access to Telia´s broadband services in a
way that would otherwise not be feasible. Close to one million people
live in the 49 main cities and towns in Västra Götaland County, of which
half reside in the densely populated Gothenburg area.

- The existing municipal core network and enterprise networks can be
connected to the public network and communicate on both a regional and
national level, continues Anders Gylder.

The entire concept is based on Telia´s new Ethernet Regional service. To
realise the build-out, Telia will invest in advanced equipment at
switching centres, making it possible to provide powerful broadband
services through the existing fibre optic network. This investment is
not expected to exceed SEK 10 million.
