Skanova broadband up to ninety-eight percent in Lerum

This autumn, the residents and businesses of Lerum will gain access to a broadband network covering the entire municipality. The network is being built by Skanova as commissioned by the municipality and will connect a full 98 percent of households and all businesses. The network capacity will be as high as 8 Mbps.
All telecom exchanges in the municipality will be upgraded to ADSL capacity. This technology uses the existing telecom network and provides very high coverage. A broadband network is already available today in Lerum, Floda and Stenkullen.
The telecom exchanges will be linked together with fiber-optics or radio links with high transfer speeds.
"We want to make Lerum even more attractive for people and businesses and we need to keep up with technology. It is enormously positive that we now have a broadband solution that provides good coverage and good pricing for both households and the municipality's many small businesses," says Henrik Ripa, Chairman of Lerum's Municipal Executive Board.
All residents within 3.5 kilometers cable distance from an upgraded telecom exchange are able - depending on the ADSL operator - to get broadband, currently at speeds up to 2 Mbps. Residents within 5.5 kilometers cable distance can get up to 0.5 Mbps. Users are always connected and can surf the Internet and use the phone simultaneously.
"Lerum municipality will have among the best coverage levels in Sweden. Thanks to the buildout of fiber-optic networks and ADSL nodes combined with using the existing telecom network, we can offer municipalities a fast, cost-effective broadband buildout with exceptionally high coverage, even in sparsely populated areas," says Susanne Jacobsson, head of TeliaSonera Network Sales.
Skanova networks have in recent years been delivered to many municipalities and counties with long distances between towns and sparsely populated areas, for example Överkalix and Kalix in Norrbotten, Stenungsund, Tjörn and Orust in Bohuslän, Norrköping, Söderköping and Valdemarsvik in Östergötland, and Örebro County and Kalmar County.
