Sonera provides communications connections to the Alpine World Cup at Levi
TeliaSonera Finland Oyj provides all communications connections to the Alpine World Cup to be held at Levi on February 28 and 29, 2004. The Levi World Cup mobile service provides up-to-date information on schedules, results, events and weather, for example, before and during the races.
The principal Finnish sponsor of the World Cup is TeliaSonera Finland, which builds two press centres at Levi, provides high-speed Internet access and telephone subscriptions for both the media and the race organization, and provides communications services for outside broadcast vehicles used by the international media. In addition, wireless Sonera HomeRun Internet access is available in the area and is at the disposal of all visitors at Levi.
The Levi World Cup mobile service belongs to the Sonera Colour services. The service provides up-to-date information on schedules, results, events and weather, for example, for friends of Alpine skiing both before and during the races. The service also contains background information and photos of TOP 10 skiers, Levi and Lapland. The teams racing at Levi will also find important schedules and contact information in the service.
The race organization has seen to it that a SIM card working in Sonera's network has been inserted and Sonera WAP settings made in all phones provided for reporters, teams and VIP guests for the duration of the races.
"The first ever World Cup in Finland provides us with an excellent opportunity to expand business and marketing co-operation to Alpine skiing. Being an experienced partner in big events we can offer advanced, high-quality communications services that benefit all who have anything to do with the event," says Director Jari Elo of TeliaSonera Finland.
"A big challenge is to show it to the International Ski Federation (FIS) that we're forerunners even where communications matters are concerned. Around 150 reporters have been accredited for the event, which puts pressure on us in respect of building and implementing communications connections. The co-operation with Sonera has been very fruitful in these matters, and it helps us to achieve maximal visibility both in Finland and internationally," says Roope Ropponen, who is responsible for the event's marketing.
