Sonera to provide services for the Nokia 9500 Communicator

TeliaSonera Finland and Nokia have cooperated in developing services for the Nokia 9500 Communicator allowing the Internet and corporate information systems to be accessed easily with the device via Sonera's wireless networks. The development aims at increasing the efficiency of mobile working and promoting the use of wireless data transmission services.

With the Nokia 9500 Communicator, the user can set up a fast Internet connection in Sonera's wireless networks in Finland and abroad, e.g. at Sonera Homerun hotspots. The service entity also enables the user to securely access the information systems of his or her organization, such as the intranet, email, calendar and other office and business applications.

When using the Sonera service, a customer with a Sonera subscription and wireless data service receives the necessary basic settings automatically when using the device for the first time.

To facilitate the introduction, training and support services will be offered to organizations. Usage guidance to end users is provided by Sonera's customer service and service points, which can also give advice related to equipment.

"Cost effectiveness and requirements for flexible working increase the need for mobile services. According to our research, what people need most is wireless access to the Internet and to corporate email. However, only some of the present users utilize data features of mobile devices. The aim of our work with Nokia is to make the use of wireless services as easy as possible and thus to promote mobile working and the development of the mobile data market," says Timo Aarvala, who is responsible for corporate wireless data transmission solutions at TeliaSonera Finland.

"The cooperation between Nokia and Sonera has evolved over the years based on the companies' shared vision of how the mobile services of the future should be developed," says Director Panu Kuusisto of Nokia. "The Nokia 9500 Communicator and Sonera's advanced network in Finland and Sonera's extensive international roaming agreements ensure that we can provide our common customers with reliable and cost-effective state-of-the-art solutions even in the future."

The tri-band Nokia 9500 Communicator has two colour displays, a full keyboard, the Symbian operating system, an integrated VGA camera, email, versatile information and time management applications and MMS support. You can download programs and applications directly from your corporate network via a wireless LAN (WLAN) or fast mobile access (GPRS/EDGE). The Nokia 9500 Communicator has 80 MB of built-in memory for various applications and a memory card slot for additional memory.
