“The results of Mobil magazine’s test mean that TeliaSonera has maintained its position, for the fifth year in a row, as Sweden’s best provider of mobile services,” says Marie Ehrling, head of TeliaSonera Sweden.
Mobil’s test checked how well mobile networks functioned when calling in cities and densely populated areas, but also along roads and motorways in Sweden. The magazine also tested how well mobile networks worked when supporting data connections and video telephony. The results of the test indicated that Telia’s network was the best in Sweden in all these areas.
In their measurements, the magazine’s experts did more than consider the technical quality of the networks – they also tested how well calls were connected to/from other networks, including the fixed network, and how broadband connections functioned from the mobile Internet to the Internet.
For the fifth year in a row (2001-2005), TeliaSonera received the award for being the best mobile network in Sweden in Mobil’s annual test.
In addition, Telia Navigator was named best GPS solution of the year. This service provides fast driving directions on mobile phones using maps that are updated continuously.
Telia’s mobile network covers 99 percent of Sweden’s population and about 90 percent of the people in the country have access to 3G services. Over the next few years, Telia will build out its GSM network to cover 90 percent of Sweden’s land area and upgrade it with EDGE technology to give customers even better possibilities to use Internet services from mobile phones. Users will hardly notice the difference between data transmission speeds in the 3G and GSM networks. The 3G network is also being completely built out and will cover close to nine million inhabitants in Sweden.
