Finland's largest HomeRun hotspot has been launched at the Crowne Plaza Helsinki, the first hotel of the chain in the Nordic countries. The service allows the hotel guests to use wireless Internet on all the hotel premises. High-speed data communication connections enabling flexible working have become a standard requirement among today's business travellers.
The Crowne Plaza Helsinki, opened on the premises of the former Hotel Hesperia, is a high-standard hotel targeted particularly at conference and business travellers. The new hotel has taken into account the customers' needs to work efficiently when travelling. Finland's largest Sonera HomeRun hotspot has been implemented at the hotel by means of extensive base station coverage. The HomeRun service makes it possible to use the Internet and email on all the hotel premises. All rooms at the hotel are also provided with fixed broadband access.
"Good data communication connections are a must for today's business travellers. By utilizing advanced technology, we can serve both our Finnish and international customers better. The wireless Internet area that covers the entire Crowne Plaza gives all our guests an opportunity to work efficiently and flexibly anywhere on the hotel premises. Our customers can also utilize the HomeRun service at other Restel Hotels in Finland and at thousands of other Homerun areas around the world," says Kari Kallio, Marketing Director of Restel Oy.
The wireless Internet accesses at the Crowne Plaza Helsinki have been implemented with the latest WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) base station technology. Sonera HomeRun is based on WLAN technology and enables wireless Internet access on premises where a HomeRun hotspot has been built. There are already about 250 HomeRun areas in Finland, about 1,000 in the Nordic countries, and over 10,000 outside the Nordic countries. To be able to use the HomeRun service, a user needs a portable terminal, such as a laptop computer, with the WLAN feature or a WLAN card and an Internet browser.
"We are happy to expand our cooperation with the Restel chain. Restel's extensive network of hotels allows us to reach an increasing number of business travellers with HomeRun. For today's business hotels, opportunities for wireless working are a competitive asset and a factor that drives customer loyalty," says Timo Aarvala, Department Director of B2B Service Offering of TeliaSonera Finland.
