Sonera provides an extensive voice and telecommunications service entity for the Ministry of the Environment

TeliaSonera Finland Oyj and the Ministry of the Environment have signed an agreement on providing the government agencies of the Ministry of the Environment’s administrative branch with a voice communications entity, including a wireless voice communications solution, remote access services, e-mail and calendar services and telecommunications services of the backbone network. The agreement is for three years, with two one-year extension options.
The administrative branch of the Ministry of the Environment comprises 19 government agencies: the Ministry of the Environment, 13 regional environment centres, the Environment Centre of Finland, three environmental permit authorities and the Housing Fund of Finland. There are about 3,200 employees altogether in the branch, most of them in the regional environment centres.
With the new, cost-effective service entity, a uniform solution provided for all the offices and a uniform way of operating, the quality of the service provided for the customers of the Ministry of the Environment will be improved.
According to the agreement, the voice communications service entity comprises a switchover to wireless communications services and to a one-terminal-device solution, reachability services and outsourced PBX attendant services. Mobile phones will be integrated into a PBX attendant service, which will improve reachability. With centralized PBX attendant service, the management of calls will improve and the call completion time will shorten. The solution also unifies the numbering and improves flexibility in situations of change. The telephone number remains unchanged when the units of the administrative branch move to new premises or to a new locality.
The nation-wide telecommunications solution will be implemented as an optical-fibre-based, information-secure, closed customer network for all offices, and so capacity can be easily added if necessary. All the offices of the Ministry’s administrative branch have access to the same service, whatever their location. Sonera attends to monitoring, system management and maintenance on a 24/7 basis, where necessary. Nation-wide maintenance and troubleshooting ensure the network’s high usability. The new telecommunications solution will be integrated seamlessly into the current IT environment, safeguarding information security. It will also provide a reliable basis for the development of new services.
