TeliaSonera arranges SurfPort Awards in order to reward content providers that offer user-friendly and innovative services on the mobile Internet portal SurfPort. This year the jury includes, for example, Martin Rolinski, a pop artist and student at the Royal Institute of Technology, and Martynas Gecevičius, a junior European Championships silver medallist in basket ball from Lithuania.
SurfPort Awards, the big event of the year for content providers and the mobile Internet industry, will take place on January 25, 2007. The aim of the gala is to reward the best content services of the year on SurfPort and to inspire new players to develop user-friendly and smart content services for the mobile phone.
The winners will be selected by a jury consisting of industry people and customers as well as individuals representing the broad service offering on SurfPort in various ways. An example of such important services is music, excellently represented by pop artist Marin Rolinski.
“It is exciting to participate in the jury’s work. There are a large number of useful, entertaining and smart services on SurfPort, which will make it difficult to choose the winners. I am especially interested in the music services, and I believe that the mobile phone will be the primary music distribution channel in the future,” says Martin Rolinski.
The jury also includes Martynas Gecevičius, a player in the junior national basket ball team of Lithuania, which won the silver medal in the European Championships this year. Martynas naturally follows the sports news on SurfPort and is of the opinion that user friendliness is one of the most important prerequisites for a successful mobile service.
“The most important thing with the mobile Internet is that it is easy to access and that it provides up-to-date news,” says Martynas Gecevičius.
“SurfPort is well on the way to becoming a mass-market service with over a million customers per month. Now that we are approaching the end of the year and should soon select the best content services, it feels good that we have a heterogeneous jury,” says Henrik Nilsson, head of SurfPort at TeliaSonera.
