TeliaSonera Finland Oyj and Finnair Oyj have signed an agreement on the delivery of a new generation IP service network. The new network meets the requirements of, for example, ticketless travelling that is on the increase. The three-year agreement concerns Finnair’s communication network in Finland.
Sonera has provided Finnair with domestic communication network services in the past, too. The requirements set by air traffic for the reliability and management of communications are most stringent. The ever-increasing ticketless travelling, e-ticketing, requires the highest possible usability of communications.
“We chose Sonera, because we are confident about the company’s service ability. Our network will be updated to allow more fluent management of the network entirety, higher reliability and services that better support Finnair’s business activities,” explains Development Manager Kari Hänninen of Finnair.
Sonera concentrates major efforts on IP migration. It is used to establish a common platform for the integrated services of the future, which can be used on various terminal devices regardless of time and place. A nationwide, fibre-based IP service network will be implemented with Ethernet and MPLS technologies. The scheme is a considerable investment in the development of the Finnish information society. For the customers, it enables fast, reliable services now and in the future.
“The IP service network will provide our customers with a platform for new services of the future and their comprehensive development. The fixed network and the wireless network will merge into one communication network entirety in which it is possible to transfer video, audio and other services important for business operations, and to guarantee high usability and management of the service entity,” says Vice President Ilkka Äyräväinen of Sonera’s Enterprise iCT Services unit.
