Sonera to provide Iin Energia and Yli-Iin Sähkö with automatic electricity consumption measurement as a total service
Iin Energia Oy and Yli-Iin Sähkö Oy have concluded an agreement with TeliaSonera Finland Oyj on the provision of automatic electricity consumption measurement as a total service. Using the new service, the electricity company can remote read all electricity meters of its area wirelessly once a day, which allows the company to invoice its customers based on the actual consumption. The new service entity will considerably facilitate the lives of both users and the electricity companies. The agreements will remain in force for 15 years.
The total service agreement covers, for example, the delivery, installation and maintenance of new intelligent electricity meters, a mobile-based automatic meter reading service, and the necessary telecommunications connections. In addition to consumption data, the solution also provides information on the state of the network. Sites with district heating will also be incorporated in the scope of the service according to the same schedule.
The consumption and fault data of electricity meters will be transmitted wirelessly to Sonera’s database once a day and forwarded from there to the network companies. The data connection is a two-way connection: in addition to the information transmitted from the meters to the system, software updates and tariff changes, for example, are sent from the system to the meters in real time.
Consumption data is measured genuinely in real time, as electricity meters appear as independent devices in the network, and the personnel of the electricity company can access them immediately through a browser-based user interface. The introduction of automatic measurement requires that all electricity meters in the areas be replaced by new remote-readable meters. The replacement process begins at the beginning of August.
The total service will provide Iin Energia Oy and Yli-Iin Sähkö Oy with significant benefits. It will allow the network companies to monitor consumption data accurately and in real time, to switch over to actual consumption-based invoicing, and to enhance both customer service and fault management.

Since we buy the solution as a service, it does not tie up our own capital.
