Sonera believes in the future of TV in the mobile phone

Sonera expands the TV offering provided to mobile customers by introducing today the financial news of Kauppalehti to MobileTV as a separate channel. Sonera MobileTV can be viewed on 3G phones in 3G networks, and on smart phones in the GSM network as well. In April this year, Sonera launched a pilot in which TV broadcasts can be viewed on advanced mobile phones. Currently, the whole offering of Nelonen, for example, the news broadcasts of YLE, news and current affairs programmes produced by MTV3, the whole offering of The Voice, and TotoTV are included in the service.
According to Senior Vice President Juha-Pekka Wecktström, Sonera has a strong belief in the attraction of different supplementary services on both the mobile and the broadband market.
– We develop new products simultaneously for new mobile devices and to high-speed broadband environments. The choice of where and how to use the services rests with the customers. We want to offer the best services to our customers also in the future, says Weckström.
– The initiative to introduce the financial news of Kauppalehti to our service offering as a separate channel came directly from the customers. The viewers of Kauppalehti’s financial news are an active group of smart phone users, and they want to be able to view news broadcasts anywhere, anytime. The offering will be expanded in the near future, and final decisions on the development of the product will be made after the pilot period, which is due to end next spring, says Weckström.
– For Kauppalehti, the new mobile service provides a natural opportunity to further expand its multimedia offering, says Hannu Leinonen, editor-in-chief. MobileTV is a media of forerunners, but I’m convinced it will gain a wider audience rapidly, says Leinonen.
