TeliaSonera launches Skanova Bitstream

Today, TeliaSonera is presenting its bitstream offering for other operators in Sweden. Skanova Bitstream (Skanova Bitström in Swedish) is a new wholesale product in the company’s broadband portfolio that allows other operators to offer broadband service through TeliaSonera’s copper network. The product is a third alternative to two other TeliaSonera broadband services for other operators, LLUB (Local Loop Unbundling) and Skanova Broadband.
“We give all operators in Sweden the freedom of choice to offer broadband products with varying prices and levels of service,” says Malin Frenning, head of TeliaSonera’s wholesale operations.
Sweden is one of the leading broadband nations in Europe. Prices are among the lowest and transmission speeds are among the highest. A strong contributing factor is that all operators in Sweden, over the past six years, have been able to offer their customers broadband by using TeliaSonera’s copper network.
Interested operators can now sign a framework agreement with TeliaSonera for delivery of Skanova Bitstream after the summer. During a transition period, TeliaSonera will manage the service manually. However, as soon as it is possible, Skanova Bitstream will be delivered automatically. Transmission speeds up to 24Mbit/second can be offered, where technical and geographical conditions allow it, and if the operator chooses to offer this speed to customers.
