Cygate and Sourcefire agree on major cooperation

Cygate Oy and Sourcefire have signed a partnership agreement on selling systems for detecting and preventing network intrusion and vulnerabilities and on providing related system consultation and services for enterprises and public corporations.

Sourcefire combines an Open Source product with its own commercial applications by adding, for example, network analysis tools and correlation and reporting intelligence to SNORT®. In addition to technical innovations, Sourcefire’s own Vulnerability Research Team (VRT) generates new identification data on attacks and vulnerabilities on a 24/7/365 basis.

“Sourcefire makes it possible to specify what ports, protocols, hosts, services, operating systems and versions there may and may not be in the network. It is also important to monitor what services and hosts are used through partner connections. Sourcefire makes it possible to monitor all users’ actions and to control that they comply with the information security policy created", says Ilkka Äyräväinen, CEO of Cygate Oy.

Sourcefire’s excellent threat detection capacity results from rules that VRT creates based on vulnerabilities detected. A rule may comprise information, for example, on what protocol is used in communicating, what specific features the protocol contains, how it acts in relation to the service, etc. A single rule may replace several individual fingerprint identifiers.

"We are very excited to have signed this strategic partnership agreement with Cygate in Finland, which will support the continued success and growth of Sourcefire in EMEA" says Anthony Perridge, EMEA Channel Director at Sourcefire. "Cygate's expertise and reputation in the IT Security market will help Sourcefire to meet the growing demand for Sourcefire's innovative security solutions in this region”, sanoo Anthony Perridge, Sourcefiren EMEA Channel Director.
“With the Sourcefire solution and Cygate’s integration competence customers can improve their knowledge of their network services, vulnerabilities and potential network-based threats, such as viruses and intrusion attempts. Sourcefire provides new kinds of tools for controlling network traffic and information security policy,” says Ilkka Äyräväinen.

With this agreement, Cygate becomes a certified Sourcefire Premier Partner, the highest level of Sourcefire partnership.
