TeliaSonera to provide broadcast-quality live images from Premier Division of Swedish Football League over
TeliaSonera International Carrier has signed an agreement with Onside TV Production to provide high-quality images for Onside’s broadcasts of games from the Premier Division of the Swedish Football League. TeliaSonera International Carrier is the first network operator with its own fiber-based media network to offer Occasional Use internationally. Media Connect Occasional Use is a new service that is being launched in connection with the start of the Premier Division football season in Sweden.
Quality is increased significantly when fiber-based technology and TeliaSonera International Carrier’s media network are used to broadcast television signals from football games. It is becoming more and more obvious today that viewers demand high broadcast quality and actually prefer HD (High Definition) programming, especially when watching broadcasts of sports events like football. Through the agreement with Onside, all Swedish Premier Division football stadiums will be able to utilize this type of occasional use service, which can be connected to television networks and production companies that have access to the media network.
“One of the major advantages of TeliaSonera International Carrier’s media network is that there are no limitations to bandwidth as with traditional satellite distribution,” says Malin Frenning, President of TeliaSonera International Carrier.
The service provides an excellent platform for production companies like Onside to offer high-quality production material for both SD and HD television. The Occasional Use and MediaConnect services are designed to meet the requirements of live sports broadcasts. Occasional Use also offers broadcasters the option to reserve the service for temporary broadcasts.
“Broadcasters, content and program providers are facing the major challenge of distributing their material over a number of different platforms with high quality. With TeliaSonera International Carrier’s fiber-based media products and networks, customers are given a complete platform for distributing broadcasts over fiber,” explains Malin Frenning.
All points of presence in TeliaSonera International Carrier’s global fiber network will be adapted for Occasional Use when the service is fully introduced as of April this year.
“This collaboration gives us new opportunities to develop our product, and on behalf of all football lovers, we are incredibly pleased that this is now becoming a reality,” says Thomas Sturesson, President of Onside Production AB.
