Sonera provides an extensive voice solution for the Kuopio region

Sonera has agreed with the Kuopio region’s sourcing on the provision of an extensive voice solution. The solution comprises voice services for nearly 22,000 users and 51 PBX attendants. The agreement covers 36 communities, such as the town of Kuopio, the Hospital District of Northern Savo, Savonia Polytechnic and the municipalities of Upper Savo with their joint municipal authorities.

The Kuopio region was looking for a solution that would meet the changing needs of units working in very different lines of business. Also, they wanted a solution whose provider could develop the service further. The Kuopio region’s sourcing announced a tender for the provision of services to sourcing and logistics communities (Halo) and to municipal communities other that Halo. Sonera’s solution was considered to provide value for money. The service delivery and the agreement period start on January 1, 2010. The agreement signed today is for three years, with an option for two more years.

“Sonera’s solution allows us to eliminate overlapping communications infrastructures and to develop regional call switching operations. The total solution also contributes to the creation of a regional information network, which can also be utilized for other purposes than the provision of call services in the future,” says Erkki Keränen, TeliaSonera’s Area Director for Savo and Middle Finland.
