TeliaSonera presents the best mobile Internet services – winners of the 2008 SurfPort Awards

At a gala celebration held last night in Stockholm, winners of the 2008 SurfPort Awards – Spain’s and the Nordic and Baltic region's best mobile content services for SurfPort – were announced. The winners were chosen from six different categories.

“The Internet behavior has finally moved into the mobile phone and we have seen yet another year with creative content services and applications being available for our customer’s mobile phones”, says Kenneth Karlberg, head of Business Area Mobility Services, TeliaSonera. I’m certain that content services in the mobile will continue and even increase to attract our customers”, he says.

Mobile Game provider of the year– the prize goes to EA Games.

EA Games offers a broad selection of games spanning over several categories frequently downloaded and popular. EA succeed in renewal and to convert console games to mobile format maintaining a strong brand value supported by excellent marketing.

Mobile TV provider of the year– the prize goes to Media Team from Lithuania.

Media Team’s “100 seconds” video service provides an easy to use, attractive and simple service with appropriate content for the mobile phone. The service is always updated and truly on demand with high usage and stickiness.

Best community and social network service – the prize goes to Facebook.

Facebook is the most popular and intuitive community service on SurfPort. The service encourages global networking and the mobile version has an easy user interface that becomes a natural extension of the web experience.

Mobile Music provider of the year– the prize goes to Roxy Recordings from Sweden.

Roxy Recordings is an innovative independent record label that works with local artists and has the courage to try new business models. They have been successful in the mobile channel and acts as an initiator for new concepts and campaigns.

Content Provider of the year – the prize goes to Ekstra Bladet from Denmark.

Ekstra Bladet has shown great involvement in the mobile business and has continuously updated the look and feel for the mobile site. Ekstra Bladet has been present on SurfPort for a long time and has a loyal and returning customer base.

Rising Star – the prize goes to Boost Communications AS from Norway.

Boost Communication has successfully integrated mobile usage to Facebook by enabling picture uploads via MMS. The service is innovative and easy to use and has potential to be a long-term hit.

One of the categories, – “Community and social network Award”– is new this year.

“Social networks have really made their way into the mobile handsets this year and are very popular among our customers. We therefore decided to highlight this with a new category.” says Kenneth Karlberg.

The SurfPort Awards is the most important event of the year for content providers and mobile Internet providers. This is the fourth year in a row that TeliaSonera has organized the SurfPort Awards. The purpose is to reward the year’s best mobile content service providers for SurfPort. They are also intended to inspire other to develop new user friendly and smart services for the mobile.
